Montivipera raddei kurdistanica (Nilson & Andren, 1986)
The breed is already a world-unique line of Netherlands origin (J. M.) from Hakkari (TR / IR). This color aberration of the color-variable subspecies M. r. kurdistanica is characterized by a dorsal pattern with circular (not triangular) yellow (male) or orange (female) saddles. In adulthood, the dorsal pattern remains in contrast to the black background of adult snakes (especially males). The breed carries the dominant gene for a compact dorsal stripe, which is only rarely genetically transmitted in nature.
Ecologically, these are alpine cold-loving snakes, for which we recommend long-term low temperatures during hibernation and a period of sexual maturity after more than 4-5 years.
Since the majority of snakes kept in captivity, referred to as M. r. kurdistanica, do not correspond to this population in any way, crossbreeding them with each other is not desirable!
